Even if you have an excellent home care routine, it is still critical that you visit a dentist regularly so that you can be checked for problems you may not see or feel. When you visit us for the first time, we will examine and clean your mouth, polish your teeth, and make any recommendations for preventive care that you may need. Call us to make your first appointment with Dr. Daniel McKay and learn more about your initial visit and ongoing preventive care in Seattle, Washington.
During your first appointment at our office, our dentist will perform a complete oral examination, including a visual examination, periodontal evaluation, and diagnosis. As part of the visual exam, we will closely examine your teeth, their supporting structures, and the oral anatomy. We also often use digital X-rays to diagnose tooth decay, bone loss, and other dental problems. We will perform an oral cancer screening, which helps us detect any abnormalities in the oral tissues. This is important so that any emerging, problematic issues can be detected early, when the conditions are easier to treat.
We also perform a periodontal probing and examination during your initial exam. This allows us to evaluate the health of your gums and diagnose any present gum disease (periodontal disease). In addition, we will analyze your bite (occlusion) to identify any problems.
After your examination is complete, our dentist will review our findings with you so you can better understand the current state of your oral health. We will then recommend the treatments needed to correct any conditions or problems we have detected. Our team will explain your treatment options so you can make an educated decision about your care. We are happy to discuss any concerns you may have about your oral health or about your treatment options; we want you to feel confident and comfortable with your oral healthcare.

As a Seattle University alumnus and graduate of the University of Southern California Dental School, Dr. Daniel McKay, continues to set himself apart by committing to a lifetime of learning. While attending the prestigious Pacific Aesthetic Continuum (PAC-Live) in San Francisco, he acquired knowledge and training in advanced cosmetic, laser, and reconstructive dentistry. Dr. McKay is the dentist for the Seattle University athletics department. He is also a proud fellow of the International Dental Implant Association. Since 1993, Dr. McKay has established himself as one of the finest dentists in Seattle with praise from his patients and respect from his colleagues.
Dr. McKay was born and raised in Seattle with his 11 brothers and sisters. He’s married to his wife of 28 years, and have three grown children. You might find Dr. McKay outdoors golfing, skiing or hiking. Dr. McKay is also a fan of Seattle sports.
Dr. Shang Lun (Allen) Liu was born in Taiwan into a dental family. His father is an orthodontist who recognized the need for a better environment, and sent his three children to the United States at an early age. He dreamed of an opportunity for them to learn English and receive the best education. Dr. Liu grew up in Cupertino, California. During high school, he played badminton competitively and competed in many tournaments with several medals won.
Dr. Liu graduated with his DMD from Temple University and the prestigious Kornberg School of Dentistry, Philadelphia, PA. Immediately following graduation, he went on to pursue specialty training in Periodontics and Oral Implant Dentistry at Temple as well. While training under the tutelage of world renowned Professor Carl Misch, Director of Oral Implantology and Professor Jon Suzuki, Program Director, he honed and developed several treatment guidelines and modalities. Dr. Liu received his specialty certificate in Periodontology and Dental Implantology and also completed a Masters degree in Oral Biology. His thesis focused on the anatomical variations in patient’s sinus cavities and how understanding these variations would lead to better clinical treatment and outcomes.
In addition to his excellent credentials and training Dr. Liu is also Fluent in two dialects of Chinese, Japanese and English.
After completing his studies, Dr. Liu followed his family and close friends to Seattle where he fell in love with the beautiful city, the rich culture, and the vibrant sports community. In his free time he enjoys badminton, biking, playing guitar, computer building and reading.
