First, there are two types of stains that we see often: extrinsic and intrinsic.
- Extrinsic tooth stains are the easiest to remove. These surface stains have not yet penetrated through the enamel into the dentin. Extrinsic stains are caused by dark-colored foods and liquids like blueberries, carrots, coffee, red wine, and cola. Smoking really does a number on teeth, too.
- Intrinsic tooth stains arise from the inside out. Tooth injury or tetracycline are the usual culprits. Intrinsic stains are more difficult to remove totally, but it is possible to lighten them.
We offer you one of several choices: Zoom! or KöR whitening, which is done in our office, and professional-strength take-home kits you can do at your convenience. Each delivers spectacular results.
